Austin Deakins, M.Ed


Austin Deakins is the founding president of PBK Oregon, a fortunate husband to a wonderful partner, and a soon-to-be father to his first child.  Before Austin moved to the Portland area from Texas, he was an Executive Director for Reasoning Mind; an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with state governments and school districts to improve math education for all learners.  Austin is also an alumnus of Teach For America; an AmeriCorps program where he taught elementary and secondary level mathematics in underserved communities.  Austin holds a bachelors degree in political science from Indiana University and a masters degree in education from the University of St. Thomas.  In addition to serving on the PBK Oregon board of directors, Austin also serves on the Teach For America alumni board at Indiana University.  In his free time, Austin enjoys seeing movies, relaxing and laughing with his friends and family, eating brunch, and traveling with his wife, Jean.

Drea graduated at Washington State University - GO COUGS! - with a degree in Pre Law and moved to Oregon in 2013. She currently works as a General Manager at a construction company and is pursuing her MBA. Her free time is spent hiking and traveling with her husband and dogs.

Leann was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at The College of Wooster with a History degree in 2012. She received an MA in Public History and Museum Studies at UC Riverside in 2014 and then moved back to her hometown of Beaverton, OR. She currently lives in Portland and works for Oregon Community Foundation. Leann has a high tolerance for bad movies and spends most of her free time checking out live performances and art shows around town.

Jeanne was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Wilson College in Pennsylvania.  After earning her doctorate in biochemistry and genetics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she served on the faculties of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York, and the Coriell Institute for Medical Research in New Jersey.  Now in her third career, as co-owner of the Crawford Beck Vineyard in Oregon, she has enjoyed learning about viticulture and applying her scientific skills to this endeavor.

Hannah graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University Bloomington. Her love of learning has so far included studies in Studio Art, K-12 Art Education, Management, User Experience Design, Content Strategy, and now Corporate Sustainability. She currently works for Salesforce as an Experience Consultant.
